Paulus Hook Row House : Jersey City, NJ : Renovation : 2018

This home, along with it’s sister structures to the east, was built in the 1980’s as a two family in an evolving Historic District in Downtown Jersey City. Our clients bought it with the intention of combining the two units into one bright and open home for their young family. The central challenge with this and most row house projects, however, is bringing natural light into the interior spaces.

Our strategy here was to open the interior as much as possible by removing unnecessary partitions, locating large windows on the front and back of the house, and adding a combination of several skylights and floor plate openings to spread light throughout the space. The result are a series of naturally lit, open and airy rooms and areas for this young family to call home.
