City of the Future

Our competition winning proposal imagines a future Manhattan where rising sea levels have altered the coastline of the city flooding the streets and occupying waterfront buildings.  In response to the inundation, a new building type, the Vane, elevates the public street space upward into a mixed use structure that extends pier-like over the street and out into the water.  By appropriating the public domain of the street, the Vanes establish a new organizational and developmental paradigm for the City of the Future.
