Central Park Apartment

Perched high above Central Park in a Landmarked pre-war building, this full-floor apartment has unparalleled views of the Park and City.  The original maze of interior walls was eroded to open up the interior and extend views both within and out of the apartment.  A new system of sliding screens was incorporated to offer the flexibility of separating spaces when desired while establishing a visual spine to the rambling apartment.  The screens are sheets of MDF that have been milled to create varied transparency from top to bottom and screen to screen.

The total renovation of the apartment allowed us to specify a range of new sustainable materials including low-VOC paints and floor sealants, FSC-certified millwork and flooring, recycled cotton insulation and formaldehyde-free MDF for the sliding screens.  We also included new, high efficiency appliances and HVAC equipment to reduce energy consumption.
